Carolina Performing Arts is the official arts presenter of UNC-Chapel Hill, offering a diverse range of performances across several venues.
Located at 140 E. Cameron Ave., Memorial Hall is CPA’s largest venue, hosting theater productions, dance performances, orchestral concerts, and lectures. Originally built in 1885 and renovated in 2005, it serves as a central hub for major cultural events on campus.
The Historic Playmakers Theatre, originally known as Smith Hall, is a striking Greek-Revival building on the campus of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. Designed by architect Alexander Jackson Davis and completed around 1851, it features a temple-like facade with Corinthian columns whose capitals are carved with ears of corn and tobacco leaves—a nod to the region’s agricultural heritage. Originally serving as a library, ballroom and assembly hall, it was converted into a theatre in the 1920s and became the home of the university’s drama productions. It’s recognized as a National Historic Landmark for its architectural and cultural significance.
Cat’s Cradle is a legendary live-music venue in Carrboro, just outside Chapel Hill, known for showcasing both rising local artists and nationally touring bands since the late 1960s. With an intimate, indie-friendly atmosphere and a capacity of a few hundred, it has long been a cornerstone of the Triangle’s music scene and has helped launch the careers of many influential alternative and indie rock acts. Its reputation for excellent sound, eclectic booking, and a laid-back college-town vibe makes it one of the most beloved music spots in the region.
Located at 123 Vivian Street (William V. “Bill” Bell Way) in downtown Durham, North Carolina, the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is a major hub of live entertainment in the Triangle region—including for those coming from Chapel Hill.
The Forest Theatre in Chapel Hill is a beautiful open-air stone amphitheater built into a wooded hillside on the eastern edge of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, adjacent to the 93-acre forest known as Battle Park.
