Lake Norman ‘flagship’ mixed-use community with a mile of shore draws homeowners

  • July 16, 2026

A large mixed-use community with a rare mile of Lake Norman waterfront is drawing homeowners as construction continues on the 83-acre development.

Lakeside Pointe off N.C. 150 in Sherrills Ford is the last of its kind with so much shoreline and mix of uses, Steven Dubb, principal and president of developer the Beechwood Organization, told The Charlotte Observer on a tour of the property Tuesday.

Construction trucks lined the sides of streets as workers with drills and hammers completed luxury homes in the massive development on the lake’s northern shore.

Construction looms behind the Lakeside Pointe boating dock for Lake Norman in Sherrills Ford.

Lakeside Pointe is about nine miles west of I-77 Mooresville exit 36 and 33 miles northwest of Charlotte. A traffic light is up and working at the intersection of N.C. 150 and Little Mountain Road at the development.

Large social gathering hall, 62 private slips

The development includes 215 custom homes, 80,000 square feet of planned retail-commercial space and a nearly 6,000-square-foot clubhouse called The Beacon Club that’s open.

Ninety of the homes have been sold, Dubb said, with those on the waterfront ranging from $1.4 million to $2.5 million.

“We’ve closed on 65, so we have 65 homeowners who are actually here and using the community,” Dubb said. “We’ve opened our waterfront models. The boat slips are opening this week.”

The Beacon is the “linchpin of the community,” he said.

Construction is nearing completion at Lakeside Pointe, which will include luxury homes near Lake Norman in Sherrills Ford.

Sitting on a knoll over a four-acre peninsula, the clubhouse has 270-degree views of the lake. Its large social gathering hall spans two stories, with vaulted ceilings with decorative wood trusses.

The clubhouse has a warming kitchen for catered events, a fitness room and multipurpose rooms for other events.

“We wanted to build a lifestyle, and the keystone to that is the Beacon Club,” Dubb said.

A large dog park with trees is open. So is the community’s playground that has a soft rubber surface and overlooks the lake.

The first of the community’s six planned 10-boat-slip docks are finished.

“While a lot of developers wait until the end of the community to build their amenities, we really push to build everything as soon as possible, so that our residents know it’s going to happen,” Dubb said.

Lakeside Pointe will include 215 custom homes near Lake Norman in Sherrills Ford.

Lakeside Pointe has already been named “Community of the Year” by the Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte, he said.

The planned retail/commercial part of the project is along the entrance road and is expected to open next year with restaurants, a dry cleaner and other small businesses, Dubb said. Businesses also will be open to the public, he said.

The first home in the development closed in January 2025.

Home with lots of open space and windows

The developer partnered with architect Terry Shook of Charlotte design firm Shook Kelley.

Homes have lots of open space, lots of windows to let in natural light and large gathering spaces to entertain guests, Beechwood Homes officials said.

Those not on the waterfront range from $700,000 to over $1 million, Dubb said.

Crews also have started on the community’s townhomes that will cost from around $500,000 to $600,000 and should be ready for occupancy by the end of the year, he said.

“There’s not another large piece of land on Lake Norman that has a community like this being built right now, and there won’t be in the future, because it’s all been developed,” Dubb said. “So this is sort of a last best chance, and we’re really proud of making the best of it.”

Beechwood Homes is a division of New York-based The Beechwood Organization, one of the largest private developers of single-family homes, multi-family homes and luxury communities on the East Coast, with 10,000 homes in 80 communities.

In 2021, Beechwood expanded into the Carolinas and has built communities in Mecklenburg and Union counties and Chapel Hill, according to the company website.
